Paul William Lander earned a graduate degree in Environmental Health Science. As an undergraduate biology major, Paul and his college roommate brought the first citizens environmental water pollution suit in the nations' history into Federal District Court. Working together with the United States Attorney's Office, the company pleaded guilty to 14 counts.

Paul soon went on to sponsor a major conference and festival to protect our oceans in 1978. Speakers included, friend's George Wald (Nobel Laureate Biologist) and Pete Seeger, a well-known folk singer and social activist. source of energy, the Earth's ecosystem would eventually collapse. In addition to the energy problem, Paul saw the need to produce what he calls, "A Lifeline to the stars." This is because, "Even if we solve the energy and environmental crisis, unabated worldwide population growth, will soon threaten our survival."
